Learning how to style yourself can be challenging although it took years to learn what looks good on me & what makes me feel confident, I'm still mastering how to make my style better and better, so without further adieu, I've prepared some tips to help you find your style!

First Step: Know what makes you look your best!

  • This is a very useful tip considering that the clothes you wear often make your first impression's on people you meet throughout your everyday life. So if you know that one shirt, those pants that's been sitting in your closet for months, etc. don't really compliment who you are or your style, then its time to toss them & donate them to your local goodwill, salvation army, or plato's closet. You also want to keep in mind that if what you put on doesn't make you feel beautiful or confident, then you shouldn't be getting that particular piece of clothing. You also want to make sure that the clothing you plan on buying compliments something you already have in your closet at home. This nit only saves time when trying to put an outfit together, but most importantly saves you money.

Second Step: Don't just focus on your outfit!

  • Just because your fit is on point baby doesn't mean you are.. okay?! You want to make sure your hair, accessories such as jewelry, sunglasses, makeup, nails, are all on point too! Sweetie... this is the essential way to spice up your outfit and adds personality. "Are you really hearing me??" and if this isn't your cup of tea add your own creative touch to your outfit that's more acceptable to your personality.

Third Step: Majority of your style should reflect your hobbies/occupation!

  • I can not stress this enough, wearing biker shorts and a cute graphic tee Monday through Friday is cute & all but isn't going to cut it if your hobbies/job do not match were you are majority of the time. Now I am a college student so most of the time I'm either in class, attending on-campus events or hanging with friends. My wardrobe conveys each of these setting, while I'm getting ready for class I put together outfits that are acceptable in the class room, considering the type of event I'm attending on campus I dress accordingly for example if there is an internship fair being held, do you really think your leaving that building with at least one internship secured with ripped jeans and a graphic tee on? lets be realistic... and keep in mind that it is crucial to have a diverse style, so you'll be prepared for any event that may come up.

Fourth Step: Budget! Budget! Budget!

  • I spoke too soon, I CAN NOT and I mean this is the most positive way STRESS THIS ENOUGH, if you break the bank trying to buy overly expensive clothes then are they really for you? A wise man also known as Jay-Z once said "if you can't buy it twice you can't afford it" which is something I live by, although there is nothing wrong with spending your money on huge brands, just be reasonable about it in any huge purchases you make in the future. I'm not in any way bringing down major brands, nor people who buy from these brand's, because if I had the coins ya girl would be making purchases from luxury brands, however being smart about it as well. I'm simply just sharing with you that you don't need big brands to make your style pop. One way to get creative one of a kind piece's is going to your local thrift store, and who knows you may get lucky and find some luxury brands for the low low. So if its not in your budget try to save up for it or find similar looks that won't have you in debt.
